The NICF, which was founded in 1995, is one of Canberra’s most respected charities and assists in funding medical equipment, research, and nurse education for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Canberra Hospital. NICF is run by volunteers, and therefore there are no administration costs. This means 100% of funds raised goes directly to helping sick and premature newborn babies of the Canberra region.
Bake for Babies
The Bake for Babies campaign is an annual event which began in 2017 and raises vital funds for medical equipment at Canberra’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The medical equipment the NICF has previously purchased through sponsorships, fundraising and donations has saved many sick and premature newborn babies lives and improved the quality of life of many more. The B4B campaign encourages Canberrans to raise some dough for the NICF - it’s as simple as bake, sell, deposit! This year NICF are raising funds for a Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA) ventilator (also known as the ‘smart ventilator’) to help sick and premature newborn babies breathe, at a cost of $60,000.
Bake for Babies involves the community and involvement with this campaign can be a great example of locally focused businesses helping a locally focused charity. But most of all, it benefits sick and premature newborn babies because life shouldn’t be a struggle when you are just a few hours old.
